A Weekend of Quilt-related Fun

We hope it’s already on your calendar, but don’t forget that this Saturday (the 24th) is the next UMQG meeting and sew-together. Join us from 10am–1pm at the Kirkland Town Library in Clinton (see map). Contact Thomas with any questions about the meeting.

And, if you’re looking for more quilt-related events this weekend, support other Mohawk Valley quilters by attending the Mohawk Valley Quilt Club’s annual quilt show.

It’s open Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 23–25) at St. Peter’s Church School, 422 Coventry Ave., North Utica (see map). You can learn more about it on their website.

Join Us at the Kirkland Town Library

Keep Saturday, September 24 from 10am–1pm free and join us for our next meeting!

We’re moving to the Kirkland Town Library in Clinton, NY (see map).

It’s a sew-together, of course, so bring your latest project along or dig out something you’ve been meaning to get back to work on.

The first part of the meeting will also be organizational—we want to talk with you about what you want to get out of your local modern quilt guild.

We’ll also be starting a monthly block challenge—the first one will be “Show Us Your Style.” We’ll talk a bit about the theme and dimensions, and have some fabric available for those who want it. In October, we’ll bring our blocks to show off, and vote for our favorite. The winner gets to choose the next theme.

And of course, don’t forget to bring show-and-tell! We would love to see what kind of projects you like to work on.

September Plans

August is a busy month for everyone it seems, especially here in NY as we try to soak up the last bit of summer heat and sun. Has anyone else had to break out sweaters and sweatshirts at night?

We’re not planning any events this month, but don’t worry, we’ll be back in September, better than ever.

Starting in September, we hope to be meeting in a larger, more convenient place with plenty of space, outlets, and tables. We’ll also be discussing plans for really getting the club rolling with block challenges/bees and skills tutorials (not to mention show-and-tell!).

So, stay tuned for more news on a final date once we get our new venue sorted out, and start thinking about what you want out of your local modern quilt guild. We love suggestions!

Come Sew With Us

Where? The Other Side located at 2011 Genesee St., Utica, NY  (see map)
(Next to Cafe Domenico, across from the Uptown Theater)

Spend a few hours with crafty friends, working on your current project (or maybe that one sitting in a box somewhere that you’ve been meaning to get back to).

There will be plenty of tables and outlets, so bring your sewing machine. Drinks and snacks are available next door at Cafe Domenico.

Stay tuned…

It was great to meet new friends at the first sew-together last Sunday. Attendees knitted, hand-quilted, sorted stacks of 2.5″ squares to remove repeats and tackled finicky projects that had been wallowing away unfinished. We’re looking forward to next time!

Speaking of next time, technical issues have kept us from planning efficiently, but stay tuned for word on our next sew-together in early July. For now, we’re hoping to make it a monthly event, but we’re open to more often if there is enough interest!
